Speaker Series 2023 – Franco Mariotti
Ontario’s Unknown Bear
Franco Mariotti, a bioligist, naturalist, and science communicator was instrumental in establishing the iconic Science North in Sudbury and on staff for 32 years. Upon retiring, he became employed on a part-time basis as a naturalist, guide, and presenter on small expedition cruise ships.
Most people do not even know that Ontario is home to the most southern population of Polar Bears in the world. How many Polar Bears are there and what is happening to them? Franco’s illustrated presentation will cover, ‘How scientists study bears’, ‘What the evidence is telling us’, and ‘What are the changes that are happening in the North.’ These questions will be answered during Franco’s highly illustrated presentation — not one to be missed.
